More than just a collection of upscale boutiques — the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace are a tourist attraction all by themselves. Excess is the name of the game in a city as gleefully and unapologetically superficial as Las Vegas, and few places offer such a wide range of places to blow your winnings as the numerous stores found amidst a Caesars Palace shopping spree. There is just about every style of clothing imaginable available here— from large retail chains you'd find in any mall to the highly specialized luxury boutiques that make browsing along the Caesars Forum shops one of the main tourist draws along the Las Vegas strip.

But this no ordinary string of shops — that would be unremarkable for a city with the reputation Vegas has. The hallways seem to stretch out forever, an interminable display of the over-arcing draw of consumerism. Caesars Forum shops are spread out beneath a high vaulted ceiling painted to appear like the sky. A nice enough effect which is further augmented by the lighting — it is designed to condense the sky's changes throughout an entire day into a mere hour. The streets (such as they are) are lined with replicas of Roman architecture — from prancing fawns to giant Roman Gods in the numerous fountains you'll find amongst the forum shops at Caesars. A few of the statues even talk and move around. It helps that the forum shops cater to the high-class and high-rollers that make their way to Vegas — being so close to top flight hotels such as The Bellagio or The Mirage certainly doesn't hurt the businesses found in Caesars Las Vegas.

But before hotels like The Mirage or The Venetian even existed, the Caesars Palace Forum Shops were wildly popular. The Bellagio seems to have a thing for water. From the giant fountains outside to the 1.5 million gallon tank inside the O theatre, it seems just a matter of time before the entire casino is underwater. The Las Vegas Show O continues with his theme - taking theater to a whole new extreme.

Otherworldly. Ethereal. Intense. These are the words thrown around when describing the O show in Las Vegas. The second of the Cirque De Soleil shows to hit the strip (after Mystere), the Bellagio Las Vegas O show is still legendary throughout the city for its stunning production values and unique atmosphere. Despite its distinctive setting, the O show is Las Vegas might be the most traditional of the Cirque De Soleil shows. While the underwater aspect adds a certain mystique to the show, its reliance on acrobats and ballet leave the Las Vegas O show the closest to a true "circus" than Zumanity Las Vegas or KA Las Vegas. There are even clowns before the show, setting the stage for the O show in Las Vegas with a variety of silly water-related antics.

It all begins with an innocuous stranger being pulled out of the audience. Turns out he's a performer, a stand-in for the real audience, as he is transported into a fantastical aquatic world, where acrobats and divers dress like something out of a Salvador Dali dream and perform feats that boggle the mind. The Las Vegas show O continues on is this direction for an hour and 45 minutes - boats appear in the pool, surrounded by synchronized swimmers, fire jugglers show up on the "shore" and divers throw themselves around with little regard for their own health. Which is one of the reasons the O show in Las Vegas continues to be one of the Las Vegas Strip's best selling shows - even though it may have been eclipsed in many ways by the always progressive Cirque De Soleil productions, the immense stage and intricate choreography of the Bellagio Las Vegas O show make it one of the city's most unique experiences.

As a result of this collaboration, the Fountains of Bellagio are considered to be one of the most complex and impressive water features that have ever been designed. The Bellagio Fountain is located within the lake. They span upwards of 1,000 feet in length. More than 1,000 water nozzles coordinate with 4,000 lights, which work in conjunction with specific musical patterns. There are three types of water nozzles that were used to create the Bellagio Fountain. Oarsmen swing back and forth, thus creating the illusion of dancing water. Shooters are capable of shooting water upwards. The super shooters can send a water blast as high as 250 feet.

The movements of the water respond to the Bellagio Fountain music. Some of the water choreography is continuous, in response to the smooth, legato musical passages. Other water jets pulse rapidly in response to music that is lively and staccato. The Bellagio Fountain music was chosen by Steve Wynn for its fountain shows. The staff goes out of their way to make sure your stay is a good one, and the rooms themselves are of slightly larger quality than the Fremont Hotel's downtown neighbors.

Another nice aspect here is the high quality of food featured in the hotel's handful of restaurants. The Second Street Grill will surprise anyone expecting the mediocrity of downtown Vegas to seep into its exquisite seafood and Pacific Rim dishes, and the Paradise Café is great for people seeking out tasty Hawaiian food. There's also a Tony Roma's thrown in for good measure, but chain store ribs have nothing on the other options.

For whatever reason, there seems to be a dearth of pools in the downtown area, and the Fremont Hotel Las Vegas is no different, choosing to share one with its sister property, the California. Which is certainly convenient for those looking to cool off during the exhausting Vegas summers (the only time the pool is actually open).

So play the slots, get some scallops at the Second Street Grill, take in the flashing lights of the Fremont Street Experience and head off to bed at 3 am, and the Fremont Hotel Las Vegas will forever be entrenched in your mind as a wonderful time. In case you were still unclear on the theme of the Fitzgeralds Casino Hotel, there is plenty of green and gold inside, and the world “luck” seems to be emblazoned haphazardly across the main areas of the Fitzgeralds Las Vegas, from the Irish-themed slot machines (Dublin Your Jackpot, indeed) to the standard neon signs throughout the interior.

Despite the devotion to the Irish theme, however, the Fitzgeralds Casino Hotel is one of the more laid-back spots in the city. Sure, all downtown Vegas casinos have the habit of going for relative understatement (of course, relative to the likes of the Paris or Mandalay Bay on the strip, most of the rest of the world is understated), but Fitzgeralds Hotel does it a little better than its neighbors. Largely populated by a clientele of the middle-aged and good-natured - this is neither the Vegas of the strip, nor the old-school charm that pervades some of the more popular off-strip hotels. The Fitzgeralds Casino Hotel seems to exist in some kind of limbo between these extremes, focusing more on value and convenience than the overwhelming glamour of the rest of the city. Almost for this reason alone, Fitzgeralds Las Vegas is worth a visit, especially if you have been around the city more than a few times.

The main casino floor is full of low-limit table games, featuring one of the cheapest roulette wheels in all of Vegas. Fitzgeralds Las Vegas doesn't seem to try too hard when it comes to the frivolities of the city - its setup is fairly utilitarian. Fitzgeralds definitely features some of the strongest drinks anywhere in the city - whether this is a nod to the hotel's overriding theme or not is anyone's guess. The food options and pool further the Fitzgeralds casino's laid-back theme. The food is tasty, if not amazing, and these could be the only casino restaurants in the city where you are more likely to see patrons in sweatpants and fanny packs than Dolce and Gabbana. The pool is even less flashy and rarely in use, even during the suffocating summer months in the desert. Though it doesn't overwhelm, there are few things in Vegas that are not available here. The upper rooms are especially nice, creating a beautiful view of a bright and bustling city, and if you are lucky enough to get a bathroom with a Jacuzzi included, so much the better. Though the downtown hotels are known for such things, the comps here might be the best in town, at least for table game players. If you are comfortable betting $20 a hand on blackjack, it'll only be a matter of time before the free stuff is coming your way.

If value is important and location is not, Fitzgeralds Hotel might be the place for you - the party atmosphere is lacking, but the energy on the tables and in the (albeit cramped) poker room more than make up for the casino's other inconsistencies. And with rooms running as low as $40 a night during the offseason, it's already like you've had the room comped. Besides, $40 plus a cab ride to the strip and back is still significantly cheaper than most rooms in Sin City.
